Playgrounds are among the fondest memories of children. But what can be a pleasant experience, has its risks to children – especially if they are not careful nor familiar with the play equipment. For the parents and guardians, they must teach the children about safety and how to play the right and safe way with the equipment found in the playground.
For indoor and outdoor playground managers, here are the safety tips to prevent injuries from playground going kids:
Summer Time Playgrounds Outdoors
Outdoor play equipment have its safety concerns especially during the summer. For one, the heat can make the surface material quite hot to touch that may result to pain or untimely injuries. Make it a point to not play in the noon or afternoon time of day where the sun is blazing hot. Afternoons where it is cooler and the surfaces are no longer hot are the best times to play. Children must also be hydrated with water before and after playing.
Sports Injuries
Many playgrounds feature a space dedicated to sports: football fields, basketball courts and cycling areas. These have their own injury risks that can be greatly minimized through sports safety tips such as:
- Avoid rough and excessive contact play with other children
- Children being taught the Dos and Donts of each sport for their safety
- Avoid bringing objects with pointed or sharp edges
- Bring sports safety equipment for their respective sports
Trampoline Injuries
Trampoline parks are becoming more popular and there’s a degree to its share of injuries especially if children are not taught about safety when jumping on trampolines. The best to start are:
- Avoid staying at the edges of the trampoline
- Play at the center of the trampoline

- Always be vigilant about your children’s time in the trampoline

- Knowing the Dos and Donts of playground equipment such as slides, swings and others
- Avoid rough physical contact
- Maintain distance with other children who are playing in the playground
- Children must wait their turn in using the play equipment
- Maintain focus on climbing and balance when playing
