• Ground Equipment – As much as possible, the elevated play equipment must have a grounded version to offer a similar experience.

• Elevation Access – Some playground equipment are designed to be elevated and the means to access these features must also have a version that supports ramps and accessible railing for accessibility.

• Disability and Safety – Above all else, safety standards must be followed in accordance with industry and local government standards.

Building an Accessible and Inclusive Playground

Accessible and Inclusive playgrounds are designed and built differently in accordance with emerging standards on inclusion and diversity to help kids with different disabilities be able to access the playground as much as possible.

1. Planning – Playground equipment and its traditional components are designed for the fully-able children with motor to enjoy. Accessible playgrounds are designed to be more accessible and linear for children with all motors as much as possible to be accommodated. Each contemporary playground equipment has an accessible version.

2. Design and Layout – Accessible versions of play equipment are incorporated into the overall layout of the playground project. Often, these two different versions of play equipment are within proximity of one another to signal that the equipment has a more accessible version.

3. Staff Orientation – Commercial playgrounds with accessibility functions also features a staff that are trained and well oriented in guiding parents, guardians and the children to the many accessible functions of the inclusive playground.
