As economies start to reopen with the gradual waning of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is nevertheless advisable for all of us, business establishments, communities and individuals alike, to continue practicing proper precautions in ensuring that virus transmission is kept under control. These safety practices are for purposes of accepting that Covid-19 is now endemic. In other words, the virus is here to stay, and we will have to adapt to life with its presence, while practicing minimum health and safety standards.
Standard safety practices are thus typically adhered to by commercial establishments to ease people’s worries about entering public premises, and you may have already noticed these:
- Thermal scanning of each person that enters the premises.
- Making it mandatory for everyone in the premises to wear masks.
- Placing hand sanitizers in common areas.
- Frequent disinfection of surfaces.
- Adopting cashless or digital modes of payments.
These measures are how commercial establishments have currently been dealing with Covid 19 and are what you can look for and expect when entering an establishment.
Other safety guidelines commercial establishments practice are as follows:
Mall Entry Points: Some practices at mall entry points include thermal scanning, safety checks of the customer on a designated app, and compulsory wearing of masks.
Commercial Real Estate: Rules in commercial spaces ensure that staff are safe. These rules include mask wearing, wearing of gloves, and limiting the number of people in the same place at one time. Delivery trucks and vehicles are fumigated and sanitized.
Social Distancing: Most shops and malls have installed markings on the floors to guide shoppers to practice the standard social distancing of 6 feet. Some stores also insist that payments be made via debit or credit cards only.
Preventive Measures in Common Areas: Mall management ensure safety continuously through mask wearing, by placing hand sanitizers in common areas, at entry points, in washrooms and in stores. Contactless soap dispensers, water sprinklers and hand dryers are also commonly available. Parking areas in many malls have adapted to accepting contactless/digital payments as well.
As individuals, we also have our parts to play in ensuring safety, as much as commercial establishments do. Under current U.S. CDC (Centers for Disease Control & Prevention) guidelines, we are advised to get vaccinated and practice wearing masks at all times in public. Mask wearing applies to everyone ages 2 years and up. Wearing a mask is also required on planes, buses, trains and other forms of public transportation.
Regarding public places for children such as playgrounds, there is no real need to fear the safety of these areas if you follow the health guidelines for you and your children. Observe social distancing; have wet wipes and antibacterial wipes on hand to quickly wipe playground handles and surfaces; use a hand sanitizer before entering, during your stay and after you leave; avoid using water fountains or shared drinking water taps; and if you can, visit the playground during the least busy hours. If your child isn’t feeling very well or is displaying Covid19 symptoms, refrain from bringing them to public places.
Given these minimum health & safety measures, and provided that everyone follows the guidelines, economies around the world are now set to reopen and restabilize relatively safely.
