Playing at playgrounds has its benefits for a child’s development. Playgrounds are one of the best places for children to interact with other children in order to develop their social skills. Being at play helps them become active; hence making them healthy and help improve their self-confidence.
Due to the unpredictable weather in Southeast Asia, indoor playgrounds have become more popular in recent years due to their in-house capacity for play and fun, even during the rainy season.
Active play
Making kids become active while young has a lot of benefits. With playgrounds, kids can improve their physical strength while lowering the risk of obesity. We all know that obesity is a common global problem. According to the World Health Organization, the number of people with obesity has nearly tripled since 1975. Also, the organisation revealed that 41 million children are overweight or obese in 2016, while 340 million children and adolescents aged 5-19 were overweight or obese in the same year.
That is why proper diet should also be accompanied by active play that is a minimum of 60 minutes. A lot of active activities are also available on an indoor playground. There are also slides, swings, and other equipment that kids can play with any season of the year. An indoor play area can give kids the freedom to do what they want while giving them the comfort and safety they needed in the first place to accomplish what they want.
Moreover, they can also make friends in an indoor play place just the same as an outdoor one. Since a playground is a public place, they will eventually talk to kids whom they will share an equipment to have a new friend to see on the next visit.
Imaginative play
Aside from active play, indoor playgrounds also offer imaginative play where kids get to pretend what they want to be when they grow up. Pretend play is when they create alternate realities around them and play their roles until the story ends. When they get to respond to other characters, kids get to learn compassion, empathy, and understanding. And for parents, fostering their imagination is one of the top priorities.
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.” – Albert Einstein
In addition, letting kids experience imaginative play makes them more creative since they need to play out roles. They need to be innovative to come up with the next chapter in their story and how to act it out based on the characters and items used. Imaginative play also improves their language skill, understanding of conversations, ability to understand stories and help them socialise with other kids.
